This is a book that will get teens wondering how they themselves would have reacted to the Nazi regime had they been born in Germany in the late 1920s. it's a fascinating and gripping read, brutal in many places, but faithful to the largely unknown experiences of those teens who called themselves 'The Edelweiss Pirates'.

I loved the way in which Reinhardt has chosen to tell the story through the memories of an old man, told to a teenage boy. Too often we forget the stories that an older generation have to tell, and for teens to read this story of outrageous bravery, rebellion, and - at times - foolishness, from such an unexpected source teaches valuable lessons about the assumptions we mkae everyday about the lives and experiences of those we live alongside.
