This is a great introduction to Tudor England for young children, who will empathise with the pain Elizabeth feels in having to get up, dressed, and ready for a world of grown-ups. However, there the similarities end - Elizabeth must brush her teeth with soot, wash her face with almond paste, and actually be sewn into her clothes!

With wonderful illustrations, and the added fun of a very well hidden mouse to find on each double page spread, there is plenty to love about this picture book - which is a good thing, as good picture books set in the Tudor times are surprisingly hard to find!
