My Review

I loved reading 'The Bed Book' to my kids, which is one of the poems in this short compilation of Sylvia Plath's poems for children. It's great for using as a jumping off point for getting children to write their own poems imagining what their own ideal bed would be like; not just a 'Nighty-night little / Turn-out-the-light little Bed', but a bed that can fly or a bed with snacks, or a bed which follows in dinosaur tracks! Plath wrote these poems for her own children and they were never published in her lifetime, but they deserve to be better known!

Heads Up!

If you choose to use these poems in the classroom, you'll want to remember that Sylvia Plath's biography is a tragic one - perhaps this is the reason that her poems for children have been largely and sadly overlooked.

Publisher Review

A timeless collection of stories for younger children. In the eponymous The It-Doesn't-Matter Suit, little Max Nix is on a quest to find the perfect suit he can go ice-fishing, cow-milking and town-walking in. There's magic afoot in Mrs Cherry's Kitchen and children will love to find their perfect Nighty-night little / Turn-out-the-light little Bed! in The Bed Book.
