My Review

'The Skylark's War' reads like an adult novel written for children - a beautifully rounded storyline, believable characters, historically accurate and believable. McKay's writing is understated and evocative - she's a brilliant storyteller. This ranks amongst my very favourite historical fiction books for children. I didn't want it to end!

Heads Up!

There is the beginnings of a romance brewing between Clarry and Rupert - it's all drawn through the most subtle of emotions rather than anything physical though. McKay went on to write a sequel, 'The Swallow's Flight', which is equally good - read the review in the WW2 booklist!
