My Review
M G Leonard is brilliant - she puts huge effort, enthusiasm, and energy into researching each book she writes, from becoming thoroughly absorbed in beetles and birds, to undertaking cross-border train journeys in order to authentically recreate them for her readers. Her passion carries through her storytelling and they are especially recommended for kids who are into the natural world - but be warned; we now have various beetles in stages from larvae through to full grown adult living in our house because of these books!
Heads Up!
M G Leonard has been prolific in the last few years, churning out the two sequels to this first novel in the Battle of the Beetles trilogy, as well as the 'Twitchers' series, and 'Adventures on Trains', the latter co-written with Sam Sedgeman. All are brilliant and worth investing in - my kids have read them and loved them all! Oh, and if your child develops a particular interest in beetles after reading this series, M G Leonard has also published a brilliant little beautifully illustrated hardback titled 'The Beetle Collector's Handbook' - a perfect gift for beetle lovers!
