This was the book that got all three of my children reading independently. The chapters are short, the action is packed, and the characters are lovable and repulsive by turn; guaranteed to delight young readers! Fox's dedication to his family, and his courageous leadership of and generosity towards his fellow underground creatures make him a very lovable hero, despite his hubris! The plot begs the obvious moral question of whether Fox is right to steal from the farmers persecuting him (the age-old Robin Hood conundrum!) - which makes for interesting ethical discussions at bedtime.....! The book makes a fabulous read-aloud too. Mr Fox's ingenuity and tenacity in the face of adversity are immortal!
