My Review

These books were HUGE favourites with our children. The humour and illustrations make them great go-to books for reluctant readers, and the language is super accessible. Did you know that Cressida Cowell grew up on a Scottish Island with her RSPB warden father, who taught her relentlessly about birdlife? This inspired her dragons book, with their emphasis on different species and identification - I love this fact!

Heads Up!

There are a LOT of books in this series!! Prepare for your kids to want them ALL!

From Book 9 onwards there is a witch character called Excelinor who freaked my children out on first readings, so be aware of this if you don't want your kids reading this far! However, my kids got over the first shock of this, and are adamant that books 11 and 12 are the best of the lot and very much worth reading!

Publisher Review

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is a smallish Viking with a longish name. Hiccup's father is chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe which means Hiccup is the Hope and the Heir to the Hairy Hooligan throne - but most of the time Hiccup feels like a very ordinary boy, finding it hard to be a Hero. In the first How to Train Your Dragon book Hiccup must lead ten novices in their initiation into the Hairy Hooligan Tribe. They have to train their dragons or be BANISHED from the tribe FOR EVER! But what if Hiccup's dragon resembles an ickle brown bunny with wings? And has NO TEETH? The Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus is stirring and wants to devour every Viking on the Isle of Berk . . . Can Hiccup save the tribe - and become a Hero?
