My Review

Don't be put off by the dated look of the front cover of this book - it's brilliant! Rather than the tired trope of a cursed artefact or a spooky mummy, this is proper historical fiction, a crime mystery set in the streets and markets of Ancient Egypt, with believable and likable characters, immersive scene setting, and compelling storytelling. And, best of all, it's first in a series!

Heads Up!

This is first in a series by Scott Peters, all set in Ancient Egypt, all about 'Kid Detective Zet'. More recently, he's written a book called 'The Boy Who Could Draw'. a well rated historical fiction fantasy about Rameses, with a brilliant front cover design guaranteed to captivate young Egypt enthusiasts - worth a look, but I've not managed to read it yet!

Publisher Review

You, who have dug deep and sifted hard for a story to read, have unearthed an ancient treasure: a mystery from the dusty ages, when a kid could be a hero and fight for the good of all . .THE KID DETECTIVE ZET SERIES: Ancient Egypt Adventure for Kids. From Scott Peters, award-winning author and creator of over 300 museum and science center exhibits worldwide, comes a non-stop mystery and adventure series—like the Hardy Boys set in ancient Egypt! 12-year-old Zet and his sister Kat love running their family pottery stall. But it's a struggle to keep afloat, now that their father is away fighting the Hyksos invaders. When the siblings learn about a valuable scroll that's gone missing, Zet and Kat decide to join forces. If they can find it, they'll win a huge reward for their family. Their problems will be over! Little do they know what troubles lie ahead. The chase leads Zet and Kat into the hotspots of ancient Egypt—from stunning temples to the Nile River, through a mysterious land of hieroglyphics, Egyptian gods, mythology, and majesty that the world has never forgotten.
