My Review

Fun and quirky illustrations will captivate children quickly in this heartwarming picture book by Kim Hallyard. So many children will relate to Ned's desire to win at all costs. As he runs his race, though, he just keeps coming across people who need help and he has to choose whether kindness or winning is the most important thing. His frustration turns to joy as he realises that in  choosing to give, he is really receiving the biggest gift of all.

Heads Up!

A great book for parents and teachers wanting to talk with competitive children about winning not always being the most important thing!

Publisher Review

Ned the hamster has been in training for the Great Garden Hamster Race but when race day arrives, the route is cluttered with critters in need of help. Will he realise that a few small acts of kindness are more important than winning at any cost? This positive picture book from author/illustrator Kim Hillyard will inspire all readers big and small to look up and offer help to those who might need it.
