These books are, as reviews will tell you, perfect for fans of Enid Blyton - less dated, and perhaps in need of a little polishing so that the story flows better, but I don't think a child would notice anything amiss! When I said to my son that I was working on a booklist of stories about Ancient Egypt, he said I had to include these - so although, strictly speaking, they are not historical fiction, here they are - highly recommended! 

In this first book in the series, Lara (whose mother is an Egyptologist and has gone off on a research trip to Egypt) and her cousin Rufus are sent to stay in a grumpy great uncle's castle, where they discover that the family has a secret. In the long distant past their ancestor, Jack, an archaeologist, brought home a haul of treasure from an Egyptian tomb which he hid and has never been found. However, 'researchers' purporting to be from the British Museum are nosing around, and Lara and Rufus suspect they are after the hoard. The race is on to discover the whereabouts of the haul before the criminals, and make sure it ends up in the right hands!

Clues, mystery, hidden passages, and of course a faithful dog in tow .... all this and more combine to make these an Egypt themed treat for adventure fans!
