My Review
This book stands out for its illustrations and for the sheer volume of information contained within its pages! Jennifer Thermes uses the life of the explorer Tom Crean to link not one, not two, but three separate expeditions to the South Pole. With extra facts, maps, timelines and a bonus page of Antarctic animal illustrations, it’s a real treasure of a book with plenty to pore over even after the story has finished. If you can only buy one picture book for your library to transport your children to the South Pole, make it this one!
Heads Up!
Nothing to report here - just a brilliant book for bringing polar exploration alive.
Publisher Review
At the turn of the 20th Century, scientists and explorers were in a race to unlock the secrets of the last great uncharted place on Earth – Antarctica. This is the true story of Tom Crean, the legendary Irish explorer and crewmate of three of the most important and famous expeditions in British history – Discovery, Terra Nova and Endurance. Through his story, we discover the events that took place on these voyages which were often thrilling, inspiring and heart-breaking.
