My Review

Georghia Elias was Head of Learning at The Globe Theatre, and responsible for helping the very young engage with Shakespeare's timeless works. Her sensitivity and passion shines through in this book - it is not just a retelling, but a reimagining of the story of 'The Tempest', told from the point of view of Ariel. All the main elements of the plot are intact, though, and it's a lovely way of introducing the story to young children, or using as a class read aloud for older kids too. The illustrations are enchanting and beautifully done, really bringing to life the magic of the story. Hopefully this duo will produce more wonderful reimaginings of other Shakespeare plays in time - with a whole library of these, a child can't fail to fall in love with the plays!

Heads Up!

Georghia Elinas and Jane Ray have collaborated on other picture book retelling of Shakespeare favourites too - also available are 'Twelfth Night' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

Publisher Review

A captivating picture book retelling by Shakespeare's Globe for very young readers. William Shakespeare’s dazzling play about magic, revenge and forgiveness is unforgettably re-imagined by Shakespeare’s Globe as a picture book for very young readers. The story is told from the perspective of Ariel in language that is true to the original play but accessible to all. With shimmering, exquisite illustrations by the acclaimed artist Jane Ray, this captivating retelling is a magical way to introduce children to the one of the best-loved works of the world’s greatest playwright.
