My Review
Unlike anything I have read before, Julia Golding’s ‘Tigers in the Tower’ transports us to Victorian London, seen through the eyes of Sahira, a young orphan newly arrived from India, in charge of her father’s collection of exotic animals. Her bond with the Tigers in her care forces her to find courage even in the hardest of times as she fights to look after them in their new home, the Tower of London menagerie, despite many obstacles and challenges. In the process, she finds that true friends don’t give up on you, even when you hit rock bottom, and that there is always hope.
Heads Up!
There are some mean bullies in Sahira’s orphanage, and she does have a short period of total despair when she wishes everything would end, before she rallies, with the help of her friends.
Publisher Review
Sahira’s family are travelling to England to deliver two majestic Indian tigers to the menagerie in the tower of London.
But tragedy strikes and sickness steals Sahira’s parents from her on the journey. Left alone in London, Sarhira finds herself confined to a miserable and dangerous orphanage. Despite her heartache and the threats she faces, Sahira is determined to carry out her father’s last request – to protect God’s beautiful creatures: her tigers. To do so, Sahira must set out on an adventure and use all her powers of persuasion to engage the help of some new friends along the way.
Can the quest to find her tigers a safe home, lead Sahira to find her own place of hope and belonging in this strange and foreign land?
